IPL, keyboard and other stuff

Hello once again. It has been a while since I have written something, so here I go.

I actually forgot about this. I went to an IPL game on the 26th of April, 2016 to watch Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Rising Pune Giants. It was barely a mid-table clash. Both teams were (are) floundering in the bottom half of the league standings. So I just went for the stadium experience. We had rain postpone the start of the game by an hour, and when it did start, the action was not quite high octane. SRH lost wickets at regular intervals and Pune weren’t really breaking a sweat. The hardcore followers of cricket among my colleagues were well disappointed. And Pune were on course to win the game in respectable time when the rain gods decide they had had enough. They might have felt,” What a bunch of crap! Let us stop this already.” So the result was decided by D/L method and Pune were the victors on the day. Not worth the money we paid for the game, was my takeaway from the game. Anyway, I am a bit biased towards CSK and now that they don’t even exist, I don’t care much about IPL.

The only thought on my mind was, “how spectacular would it be were this a football match?” Preferably the Emirates Stadium or the Signal Iduna Park. Actually not the Emirates, not now at least. The crowd has been hostile towards their own players this season, after we gave up on the title. Maybe someday I will be fortunate enough to visit this hallowed cathedral of a stadium to watch the famous Arsenal play. And pose beside Thierry Henry. And Dennis Bergkamp. And the golden Premier League trophy. And take part in the atmosphere generated at this fantastic venue. I’ll continue this elsewhere (in my mind :P)

I think I will give the keyboard grade 2 examination this August barring unforeseen circumstances. I have finished the grade 1 book, and am now onto the next one. The exam book is just a level apart! It is a huge leap, I must say. Like jumping from the sixth to ninth standard. My instructor is confident that I can do it though. I started practicing and finishing a line has become today’s achievement. That is how difficult it is. But hey, I enjoy my music. I am happy to be learning. Keyboard class has been one of the few great things that have happened to me since I came to Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad weather gods are frustrated with the heat it seems. The temperature has dropped significantly (only 35 degrees Celsius :P) and it has been raining for the past 4 days. I am not complaining though. Enjoy it while it lasts. It seems Mumbai hasn’t been that fortunate. Still lots of sun over there.

Summer means Game of Thrones. So far two episodes have come out, and I watched them. I wasn’t impressed with the writers this season. Both episodes have had similar themes (kill someone important, show some flesh, make Tyrion look cool, etc.) And storylines have been cut (No surprises there). The unpredictability of the show took a hit in my opinion. As for what will happen next, I can make an educated guess (which would be spoilers for you). I just hope the book is a million times better than the show, which is now on a precarious edge to deliver.

I got bored of Lee Child’s books and moved on to the next author, Vince Flynn. It turns out, that he is also of a similar kind. His hero is eerily similar to Jack Reacher. I am on his first book, so I will reserve my final judgement till I finish at least one more. The struggle to find a good author continues to no avail.

So people, have a great weekend. I will try to get something done, and then it is back to mundane life from Monday.

Nagarjuna Sagar

When you learn something, you need to put it to use. You need to apply what you learnt to a real world scenario. Only then do you really get to know how much you actually learnt. Last Sunday was one where I put my driving skills to the test. I went on a bike trip with a great friend to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. This guy was my bike guru. He was going to decide if I was roadworthy. He's not a strict teacher per se, but I didn't want to disappoint him. So, the day after I got my driver's license, we set off, in the sweltering Hyderabad heat. The city part was really tricky, and I knew that I won't be confidently able to maneuver the traffic deftly. Already we were a tad late, so my guru handled the bike till the outskirts of the city. After having sumptuous breakfast(amazing sambar!), I started driving, and he guided me. Initially after a few hiccups, my confidence started to wobble. Fortunately, the highway started, and we had lots of free road, and no pesky autos....

Robin Hood Army

18th October 2018 10:30 pm: I get a call saying there is food for more than 50 people left over at a function organized in a residential complex. I am tired after a long day but I decide to go anyway. I call a guy who has reached there, and he says he needs more people. I reach the complex and see the amount of food left over, and it is for more than 150 people! Thankfully we were 5 people, and we were able to get an auto to the place where we knew there would be a lot of people to donate the food to. We went 12km to the place, at 12 in the night, and served the food among the slum dwellers, auto-wallahs, and others. We took more time to wake people up from sleep and let them know that there is food than distributing the food itself. That day we would have served around 150 people, people who otherwise would have gone to sleep on an empty stomach. Distributing food at midnight Who are we? We are Robin Hood Army, a volunteer organization which focuses on donating excess...

Merci Arsene!

Arsene Wenger, the legendary Arsenal manager announced the he will be departing at the end of this season. The man who won us 3 league titles, 7 FA Cups, a Champions League final, and designed a brand new stadium, while giving us outstanding players, mesmerizing football, and sticking with us through difficult times. He kept us in in the UEFA Champions League for 19 seasons , which is simply amazing, considering the caliber of players he sometimes had to put up with. All the while, he had offers which would have made any other manager drop everything and leave, but Arsene decided to stick with us. His love for the club was simply unparalleled and unquestionable. His dedication and commitment to the club is unrivalled in modern football. He has taken "Boring boring Arsenal" to a new level, built a superclub, which can sustain itself financially, all the while not compromising results. His achievements at the club will never be forgotten, and his influence at the c...
